Seaside

By. Zoey Elsner

We all know that Seaside is a good weekend vacation spot and that there are so many things to do. Most visitors of Seaside don’t know about all the different things you can do there.

Many people haven't been to Seaside since they were little and most likely don’t know that they can do half the things in this article. I asked Rylea Payne if she knew about the End of the Lewis and Clark trail, and she responded with, “No I didn’t but that’s such a cool historical experience.” My goal in this article is to bring everyone's attention to all the things you can do at Seaside and a lot of the history on Seaside.

Seaside was founded in 1899, one of the very first buildings opened in Seaside was the Ben Holladay Seaside House. It was built in 1871 before Seaside was founded. The house included a race track for horses and horse stables. The seaside house was a Italian Villa style hotel.

The year that Seaside opened the population was around 500, and the summer brought 5,000 to 10,000 more visitors. In 1881, the Tillamook Rock Lighthouse was finished so boats could be guided away from rocks that they could hit. A really cool and interesting fact is that in 1805 Lewis and Clark reached the Pacific Coast of Seaside after 18 months of their expedition. Lastly Seaside is known to have the greatest firework show on the West Coast.

There are so many things you can do at Seaside. Some of the things are the Seaside Aquarium, Seaside Museum and Historical Society, Seaside Inverted Experience, End of Lewis and Clark Trail and all the Shops in downtown Seaside. The Seaside Aquarium is along the beach, you can go their and see some the different animals that are in the Pacific Ocean. When you first walk in their is a part where you can see some seals and you can feed them. There is also an area where you can touch some of the animals. Seaside Museum and Historical Society is a place where you can go and see things that have been collected, also you can learn more about the history on Seaside. Seaside Inverted Experience is a bunch of rooms kinda like a house but everything is upside down so there are tables on the ceilings and even upside down toilets. You can go there with your family or friends and take really funny pictures of you hanging from something or upside down.

The End of Lewis and Clark Trail is at the loop of by the beach and it is a statue of lewis and Clark. You can go their and take pictures with it or by in. Also there's always someone there playing some kind of instrument. There are so many shops in downtown Seaside. Some are clothes, shops and ice cream shops there's an arcade and many more. I asked a fellow student what her favorite shop in seaside is, she said, “There's this really cool T-shirt shop I think it's called American freedom, and they print all these cool shirts.”

Another thing you can do is go to the beach there. The water is cold but it is still so much fun to go run in.

There are so many fun things to do at Seaside like go on a hike, go to shops and take pictures. So the next time you and your family go on a trip to Seaside you will know about everything you can do there and if you and your family have never been to Seaside I encourage you to go and enjoy the nice weather.
